As part of the National Biodiversity Future Center's (NBFC) massive digitization project of Italian herbaria, the scanning of material from the Sapienza Herbarium Museum has been completed. The last specimens from the collections sent to Florence have been digitized. A total of 3,903 cubbies were processed, and images of 439,736 herbarium sheets, corresponding to 499,160 specimens, were acquired.
Pending the availability of the digital images, the return of the materials is proceeding rapidly, as is the rehousing of the cubbies in their original cabinets.
Next, the herbarium label transcriptions will undergo a validation step, which will engage the entire Herbarium Museum staff.
