The Sapienza Herbarium Museum participated, for the first time, in “The Nomenclature Section of the XX International Botanical Congress” held in Madrid from July 15 to July 19, 2024. The congress is organized about every 6 years and attended by botanists from all continents who discuss and vote on proposals and amendments to the Code of Botanical Nomenclature published in the scientific journal TAXON in the years following the previous congress.
The Sapienza Herbarium Museum participated in the voting through the “preliminary guiding vote”. Dr. Duilio Iamonico, researcher at the Department of Enviromental Biology, voted on behalf of the Herbarium. He was eligible to vote as he had published a proposed amendment to the Code [Iamonico D., McNeill J., Del Guacchio E. 2021 - (078) Proposal to add a new Example on an indirect reference after Article 38.14. Taxon 70(2): 457-458. https://doi.org/10.1002/tax.12474].
In addition, the Sapienza Herbarium Museum participated as an Institution in attendance.
