Sandro Pignatti has left us

The Sapienza Herbarium Museum is mourning the loss of Sandro Pignatti, who passed away on Friday, June 13. He was the former director of the Department of Plant Biology, president of the Italian Botanical Society, and a member of the Accademia dei Lincei. He was a point of reference for the whole Italian botanical community. His two editions of Flora d'Italia, monumental works of fundamental importance for identifying plants in Italy, will forever stand as a testament to his ability to share knowledge and understanding.

The Herbarium Museum is proud to preserve two collections donated by Sandro Pignatti:

The Herbarium Generale Limonium (HG-Lim) consists of 36 cubbies totaling over 1,000 specimens, primarily of the genus Limonium. Pignatti devoted much of his studies to this genus and described numerous new taxa.

The second is the Herbarium Pignatti (HPign), a collection currently undergoing arrangement that includes materials collected during his travels around the world.
