To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Sapienza main Campus, the Herbarium Museum joined in the festivities with great enthusiasm.
On September 15 and 16, 2025, the Sapienza Herbarium opened its doors to everyone – students, families, plant lovers, and curious visitors – offering free guided tours every 30 minutes, no booking required.
It was a great opportunity to take visitors on a fascinating journey through the history of the Herbarium and the key figures who, over the years, have enriched its collections with passion and expertise. Guests got a close look at some of the amazing plant specimens housed in the Museum, learned how an herbarium sheet is prepared, discovered preservation techniques, and found out why digitalization is becoming so important in scientific research.
There was also a chance to take a behind-the-scenes look at the National Biodiversity Future Center's (NBFC) massive digitization project of Italian herbaria, with a focus on the first milestones and how this work will help make the Herbarium more accessible to everyone.
